What is EFT?
"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. Our unresolved negative issues are major contributors to many physical pains and disease".
Gary Craig, Creator of EFT
Because we are subject to physical and emotional damage, we are also designed to heal. However, unresolved negative emotions relating to past events can seriously compromise these self-healing mechanisms.
Often, having dealt with the rational elements of a problem, whether emotional or physical, we are conscious of improvement. This improvement however may prove temporary – the issue continues to unexpectedly resurface and ‘bite us on the nose’. We may have dealt successfully with the surface aspects of the problem, but still have it stored energetically in the body.
Einstein told us that everything in the universe, including us, is composed of energy. With modern diagnostic instruments such as MRI, PET and EEG, we now have daily evidence of the amazing electrical system of the body. For example:
- The human brain contains a million million neurons or brain cells
- Each of these cells is more powerful than your PC
- If you lined up all your brain cells they would reach to the moon and back.
- The number of connections these cells are capable of making is 1 x 10.5 million kilometers of noughts
and each of these connections, which govern your every movement thought and feeling, is made electrochemically.
The concept of energy healing has long been understood by other cultures. Of all the systems, one of the most widely used and developed is acupuncture, where needles are used to stimulate specific points in the skin which then send signals directly to the brain. MRI scans have demonstrated that stimulating specific points on the skin can:
- Change brain activity
- Deactivate areas of the brain that are involved with the experiences of fear and pain
Acupuncture usually involves the use of needles, but tapping or massaging the specific points can also produce similar outcomes.
Roger Callahan applied these principles to develop ‘Thought Field Therapy’ (TFT) which involves following set protocols tap on specific points. When Gary Craig studied TFT he was amazed at the effectiveness with which he could resolve a range of issues. He then reworked the TFT approach into Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) making the methods more accessible – anyone can learn them and use them effectively for themselves.
“Energy is the blueprint, the infrastructure, the invisible foundation for the health of your body. Your body is composed of the energy pathways and energy centres that are in a dynamic interplay with your cells, organs, moods, and thoughts. If you can shift these energies, you can influence your health, emotions, and state of mind.”
